It has been seven weeks since Charlie Kirk was violently taken away from this world and I am still processing it.

Maybe you are like me and you don’t know why you are still grieving over someone you never knew personally, and that is ok. I think a reason Christians are feeling the pain after the event is because they know they lost a brother in Christ on a public stage.

When I found out he was shot before it was announced he passed, Liberty University students began to form a prayer gathering later that day. Even though he passed away, that did not keep students away from fiercely praying for the Charlie’s wife, Erika, and his two young kids.

I remember gathering at the prayer on the Montview Union steps and feeling like the country was at intense crossroads- not just on a physical scale, but a spiritual one. Charlie boldly preached the gospel everywhere he went and shared it minutes before he passed.

Charlie was not assassinated because of who he endorsed, was a conservative, or debated college students. The evil deep-rooted issue that prompted Charlie’s death was his boldness for the gospel, family, gender, life, and moral issues.

Because this was breaking news at the time, camera’s and news stations were present at the prayer gathering. Liberty ended up going viral for students praying over the recent tragedy. That was just the beginning.

People on social media boldly called out evil for what it was. Two days later, Erika Kirk boldly shared the gospel in love fighting tears while addressing the nation. It was like…a turning point.

From politicians, to pastors, or social media influencers, people were boldly sharing the gospel and hope of Jesus before, during, and after his memorial.

Perhaps one of the most Christlike qualities from everything that has been made public was Erika forgiving her husband’s assassin….and it was after 11 days since Charlie passed. It was almost like the country and world needed that to happen. Not Charlie getting shot, but people on fire for the Lord.

Christians were apologizing on social media for not being bold enough with the platform they have been given or just with their peers. It was like a wake up call for what Christians mission really is here on earth-to make disciples of all nations.

Sometimes, the greatest fruit is not produced until we have passed from this earth. Charlie’s death was an example of that. It speaks volumes that Charlie had Jesus dwelling in his heart with the fruit that has been brought up since Sept. 10.

Let this be encouragement for Christians to not shy away in fear of what the world may think about your beliefs or faith, but a time to be bold for the gospel and sharing the truth.

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." - Matthew 5:10-12
